Skeggy Marie on "Dog Mess in Skegness"

Mayor Councilor Pat Phillips at Skegness Town Council's meeting on Wednesday said: "The amount of dog fouling which is going on in this town is terrible. All around the bowling greens and all around the Pier Field is a dog waste haven."

It's good the council has seen the problem first hand and are discussing the issue, but nothing was spear headed at the council meeting to solve the issue.

There only advise was for I assume individuals "To contact ELDC's dog warden by calling 01507 601111", WHAT USE IS THAT !!

A dog doing it's busyness is over in a minute by the time you've called the warden the dog and owner are gone. This approach would only work if you know the owner, if it's a stranger or holiday maker there no chance of stopping it.

The other suggestion was for the council to make it clear that dog fouling is unacceptable behavior!.

Do the council really think these disgusting people don't already know that!

These lazy people don't care about themselves let alone others, then to expand that to caring about the town and hygiene/health is asking to much of people like these.

They don't have the intelligence to understand the health issues, I'm sure the majority of them don't understand fully why they have toilets and use them in their homes let alone expand that relevant information to there dog.

These selfish people ruin any town in no time at all and I think the council should be cracking down hard. We've all seen the signs that say 2-5,000 pound fine for fouling, but there never enforce, I for one have never heard of someone having to pay thousands for dog mess.

Councils already have the means through these fines to put a significant stop to it if they enforced it properly. Stop tiptoeing around these people and give them the full fines and enforce it by feet on the street because if you don't it will never change.

Also these fines should be enforced for being caught just once, not having to acquire several pieces of evidence over a matter of month, it should be your caught your fined.

Why doesn't councils get the wardens to patrol troublesome areas on intermittent days, times and weeks it would be a lot more constructive than telephoning

Does anyone know the exact procedure for dog fouling?

I do have an amusing Idea (just a joke :-)) maybe the council could keep the town clean if they employed groups of teenagers to confront dog owners who don't pick up after there dog, everyone hates and finds teens intimidating and it would be as cheap as cider :-)

Dog mess and disgusting dog owners are a problem no matter where you live in the UK . These lazy individuals make it so you can't enjoy the world around you and instead spend half your time looking at the ground :-(.

You would have thought these dog owners who let there dog foul freely would want to pick up the mess since there knuckles are always dragging on the floor :-)

Skeggy Marie on "Should Skegness outdoor swimming pool be open longer?"

"GRUMBLES that Skegness' outdoor pool remains closed during the sunny days of early summer were sounded at a town/district liaison meeting.
However, for costs reasons, East Lindsey District Council has no plans to bring forward the opening from July, heating and chemically treating the water – plus the cost of lifeguards – could not be justified".

I have my own opinion on this subject that some class as controversial

I think we should scrap the outdoor pool all together!

The Embassy outdoor pool in Skegness is only open for 8- 10 weeks in the summer holidays it's pointless having it open, it would be better for Skegness if the indoor pool was improved and expanded to cater as an all year round attraction.

although an outdoor pool is a romantic idea the practicalities of swimming outdoors falls foul of many issues.

Skegness in fact England is not known for it's sunny weather. Most of our summers are cool, breezy and rainy, is it worth having an outdoor pool in Skegness that is used if your lucky 3 weeks in summer

So the question as to be asked how much money is brought in by an outdoor pool compared to an indoor pool?

Then there is the issue of climate change with skin cancer on the increase should we really be encouraging people to stay out in the sun to long

Lastly hygiene The council would empty the outdoor pool in Skegness every year in the winter now since the purse have been tightened the last few years the pool is no longer cleaned with ducks taking up residence on the pool in the winter month I wouldn't swim in that water. 10 months of duck poo no thank you. just filling the pool with chlorine isn't exactly healthy.

Some might argue just on the fact an outdoor pool is a traditional Skegness attraction for holiday makers, but I think if you did the research most families now days prefer a modern pool with the latest technology (flumes etc..) rather than an out of date concept, swimming around in a glorified duck pond.

Looks like Skegness might be getting a new ASDA store. ASDA has bought some land in Skegness, so with a little luck we'll have another supermarket to shop from soon.

That would give Skegness Tescos, Morrisons, Iceland, COOP, Lidle, Herron's and ASDA, which is quite a bit of choice for a town with around 20,000 permanent residents.

More choice for shoppers, but more competition for the high street shops as well which already find it difficult to compete on price with the major supermarkets. I understand ASDA is the cheapest major supermarket (ALDI and Idle are cheaper, though not by much any more), so I guess ASDA is the worst one for the high street shops (good for shoppers though).

We had a great time at the Who's Bad - The Ultimate MICHAEL JACKSON Tribute Band at the Embassy last night.

I'm not a big Michael Jackson fan, I like the big Jackson hits like Thriller, Bad, Billie Jean, Black or White etc... but not so much that I listen to them on CD or anything (if they come on the radio, I might sing along a little).

There were a few songs I didn't recognise, but for the most part I knew them, my wife knew more and even our 13 year old son knew a handful as well (I know he likes Smooth Criminal) which considering we don't listen to Michale Jackson on CD was a surprise.

I didn't recognise the first song, but by the second song I was humming along and bodging my way through the lyrics, if you don't know the words, make em up :-)

The Embassy was close to full with only the top side seats on the left and right (the ones with a not very good view) being empty, so a very good turn out.

I was very impressed with Who's Bad, especially the two lead singers (who sang as Micheal Jackson), they really incorporated the audience into the show from song 2. Lots of clapping along, waiving arms, wooing etc... (my wife loves making loud woo nosies at this type of show, so she was in her element :-)) and for one song they got about a dozen women from the audience on stage to dance along :-) All family friendly fun stuff, there was a young girl on stage from the audience that was a big hit with both the Skegness audience and the Who's Bad singers, she really did do MJs dances justice for her age.

It was really funny when one of the MJs went to get the little girl to dance again in the audience (she'd gone back to her seat) and her Mum gave her a bit of a shove into the isle for her to dance. I laughed out loud :-))

My wife had a great time dancing along for most of the show with our youngest son, I tried, but I have to take it easy to protect my back, (had an operation a year ago and still not fully recovered) so could only manage a few songs stood up pretending I could dance.

As a person who likes to listen to the odd Michael Jackson song on the radio I really enjoyed the show a lot (glad I went). There were obviously some big Michael Jackson fans in the Skegness audience and they absolutely LOVED the Who's Bad showmanship. The two MJ singers really played to the crowd as though they were Michael Jackson and the audience loved them. It's hard to copy an entertainer like Michel Jackson (he's such a showman), but they did a really good job. If Jackson was still alive and they went on stage at one of his concerts I think I'd be fooled for a while from a distance (they looked like young Michael Jackson's, so that would have given it away :-)), the dancing and singing was very, very believable (sometimes with live shows the real performer don't even sound like what you get on their retail CDs).

My only complaint (and it's relatively small) was the lighting. There was a movable light on the right and left of the stage and though we were sat right at the back on the right (as you look down) one of the lights pretty much shone directly in our eyes! I'm guessing many others had the same light in their eyes. For the first song it was set to a white light and didn't move at all, it was a case of "I hope that damn light isn't going to be on for the next 2+ hours!).

By song two the lights started to move (rotate around etc...) and change colours, which helped, (the white was too much) but every so often on a loud note the lights flashed directly in our eyes. A few songs in the lights didn't seem to flash so much directly at the audience and I think the one on our side stopped working altogether (which I was quite happy about).

Other than the light in our eyes, can't think of anything else bad to say about the show. If the Who's Bad stage crew read this, can I suggest pointing the light away from the audience (a lot higher above the audience for example) and not having it set to white for long periods of time (the first song).

You aren't supposed to take photos or videos in the Embassy Theatre, there was quite a lot of people breaking that rule and members of Embassy staff were running around trying to stop them (unsuccessfully for the most part). It would be great to have a few photos and videos of Who's Bad - The Ultimate MICHAEL JACKSON Tribute Band playing at the Skegness Embassy Theatre (I can find videos and photos from other venues online easily) for this site, so if you have some and wouldn't mind sharing, drop a comment below.

My wife will add her review at WHO’S BAD! a Michael Jackson Tribute Band Review shortly.

Skegness relies on tourists, if tourism dries up Skegness dies.

The councils should be going out of their way to make visitors stay in Skegness as enjoyable as possible with an aim every pound the council spends will reap at least the same amount back. Having a golden sands beach is not a good enough reason for people to holiday in Skegness, we need to provide more.

You have to spend money to make money, speculate to accumulate... and with more people looking to holiday at home now because of the recession, this is not the time to cut back on investment to attract more visitors to Skeggy. We need to give the visitors such a great time when the economy picks up, they still visit Skegness, maybe not as their main holiday, but as a second holiday.

The SEAS and SO festivals for example are unlikely to have made the area as much money as they cost, though in some respects we (Skegness/Lincolnshire) didn't pay for the vast majority of it (we did really as the money comes from us through taxes etc...).

I don't know where the funding for this years SO festival will come from, but if they want this to be a regular yearly event they should be aiming for it to pay for itself through sponsorships, increases in tourism revenue, charging for parts of the events (I'm sure most people would have paid for the music/fireworks on the beach for example), so we can have it every year and build on it. Doesn't have to be completely free.

Then there's the Skegness Carnival which is considered a major Skegness event, but gets no funding from the council! I'm not impressed with the Skegness Carnival, (as my wife puts it, it's a parade not a carnival) but considering all the money is generated by the Carnival committee, (charity) what should we expect (it's hard to raise money when it makes no money back). £120,000 on stupid plants in blue pots that look tacky and no investment to an event like the Skegness Carnival that has the potential to pull in thousands of visitors to Skegness with money to spend.

I'm not impressed.

Skegness Forum on "Skegness Pier Toilets no Longer Funded by ELDC"

Stuart Davy, ELDC strategic director has said: "These toilets have not received any investment for some considerable time and fall well below the standard that we would wish to be offering visitors to the resort."

I can understand East Lindsey District Council not wanting to be associated with below standard toilets, it puts the town in a negative light to Skegness visitors. I've not been in the toilet, if it's below standard they are right to act. The issue for me is they are pulling funding from a below standard toilet and have no plan to replace the facility for this season if it closes (will it close all season?).

Where is the forward planning from the district council?

If this toilet is as important as some suggest, (according to the Skegness Standard, Skegness town councillors are angry) when they announced they'd be pulling support at the same time they should have announced what it would be replaced with both short and long term or at least explained why we don't need those toilets under the Skegness Pier IF it closes and they have no plan to replace the facility.

If finances aren't the main issue, (we are just coming out of recession and councils have to cut services) there's an argument the money ELDC won't be spending on the Skegness Pier toilets could be used for an alternative (portable loo for example).

If this is just about quality of the toilets, ELDC should have had a contingency plan in place when they decided to stop funding. If we needed the toilets in 2009, we'll probably need them in 2010. This assumes the toilets will close if the council don't fund them.

Got a feeling here ELDC wouldn't have seen stopping funding the toilets as a big issue, so haven't taken into account people might not be happy about loosing the toilets.

I can't get over over 1,000 of our neighbours voted BNP in 2005! That's 2.4% of those who voted!

Do you have any idea what the BNP really stand for?

You might think it's just to control immigration, but they have some nutty policies. For example they plan to force everyone to do national service. This is not just the military national service teenagers do for a couple of years we had in the past, but a forced labor force to work on farms etc... for free! Add to this the ludicrous ideas that anyone who refuses to do military national service are not allowed to own a gun (owning a gun after military national service would be compulsory under the BNP!), but they also LOOSE THEIR RIGHT TO VOTE!

Yes, if you don't do military service you can no longer vote under the BNP. This is from recent BNP manifestos (check out their manifestos, easy to find online).

The BNP plans are right out of 1930s Germany, the Nazis slowly removed the right to vote from those who opposed them and banned major political parties making it impossible to beat them in fair elections. The Nazi vote went from what the BNP gained in the EU elections in 2009 to them taking power within a decade and driving Europe into World War II!

Makes you wonder why the BNP want everyone to do military national service when another policy is to pretty much isolate Britain from the rest of the world!

The BNP have selected David Owens for Boston and Skegness seat in the 2010 general election. David Owens is the BNPs first Boston Borough Councillor and lets hope the last one.

I can't believe people voted for these numpties, yes immigration is important, but it's not the only issue and the BNP policies are dumb, they are the sort of stuff people talk about in the pub when discussing politics. It's the "I know what we should do about immigrants, blow up their boats as they come into British waters, that'll stop em". Believe it or not Nick Griffin (BNP leader) said something like the above about controlling immigration!

If you plan to protest vote at the general election, vote Lib Dems, the Greens, UKIP or Monster Raving Loony party if they stand here. Do not vote BNP as a protest vote, it's too much of a risk to our democracy.

Based on the 2005 general election results for Boston and Skegness

Conservative - Mark Simmonds 19,329 votes 46.2%
Labour - Paul Kenny 13,422 votes 32.1%
UKIP - Richard Horsnell 4,024 votes 9.6%
Liberal Democrat - Alan Riley 3,649 votes 8.7%
BNP - Wendy Russell 1,025 votes 2.4%
Green - Marcus Petz 420 votes 1.0%

Majority 5,907 votes 14.1%
Turnout 41,869 votes 58.8%

Conservative hold - Swing +6.4%

And the current standing in the polls for the Conservatives, we are pretty much guaranteed another 5 years of Conservative power in the Parliament constituency of Boston and Skegness.

Still Boston and Skegness isn't a safe seat by any measure and with the possibility of a hung parliament and smaller parties like UKIP and the BNP threatening to split the vote over immigration issues, you never know what's going to happen on election day in a paticular area.

I'll be voting Labour, they've made a lot of mistakes over the years, but deep down I think they care more about ordinary people than the Conservatives. Just look at the national minimum wage, without Labour being in government, employers would still be able to pay workers the equivalent (taking inflation into account) of under £1 an hour!!

A Conservative MP boasted at a Conservative conference I believe, that he used to pay some of his employees 88p an hour!!! Add to this a recent Conservative backbenchers bill to allow employers not to hire workers who refuse to work for less than the national minimum wage and there's grave concerns what the Conservatives might do long term with the national minimum wage (I see them reducing it in real terms, long term).

If you had a wage of £1.20 an hour before Labour came to power and you take inflation into account, today you'd be earning ~£1.60 an hour!!!

Is the National Minimum Wage Safe Under a Conservative Government Poll?

Following the release of his album in July 2002, Charlie appeared extensively on TV and radio throughout the British Isles, including the notable appearance at the closing of the Special Olympics in Dublin, where he sang his song Special to thousands of athletes from all over Europe.

Charlie's songwriting blends easy on the ear, folk, country, ballads and blues with a strong and often personal lyric content, mixed with his wit and repartee, this has led to a winning formula which has made an impact on so many professionals and fans alike.

His successful songs have led to his work being covered by several artists inluding Jack Jones, Pat Boone, Foster and Allen, George Hamilton IV and Daniel O'Donnell.

"The Bon Jovi Experience" is an outstanding tribute to Bon Jovi. They are the only Bon Jovi tribute band in the world to have actually played and shared a stage with Jon Bon Jovi himself! (Fans will have thought there were two Bon Jovis on stage that night, so much does lead singer Tony Pearce resemble Jon Bon Jovi!)

Recreating Bon Jovi Live in Concert,"The Bon Jovi Experience" perform all the great hits: "Livin' On a Prayer", "Keep the Faith", "Bad Medicine", "You Give Love a Bad Name", and many, many more.

When Roy Orbison died in 1988, it was left to others to bring his music to the concert stage. No easy task. But Barry Steele comes with very good credentials and a genuine admiration of the Big O.

Just imagine it is the 30th of September 1987 and Roy Orbison is in the Coconut Grove Nightclub in Los Angeles recording the sensational Black and White Night. Relive this golden evening as Barry Steele effortlessly transports you back to what was arguably one of Roy Orbison,s greatest performances.

Barry Steele who portrays The Big O has toured extensively across the UK, Denmark, New Zealand, Holland, Belgium and Germany. He performed as the Big O to rave reviews in the hit show "Rockin on Heavens Door", before leaving in April 2009 to concentrate on his own show.

Barry has been described by the stage newspaper as "Brilliant" and the Wanganui Chronicle in New Zealand stated "Barry Steele has a range to match the master". It was during the tour of New Zealand that it became evident that the chemistry between The Big O's music and The Beatles was electric and both Barry and The Complete Beatles are looking forward to bringing "Roy Orbison & The Beatles Live in Concert" to the UK and beyond.

The Complete Beatles are one of the UK's Premier tributes to the Fab Four, and have toured across UK, Europe and the Far East in their own show and perform regularly with Gerry and the Pacemakers in theatres across the country. Both Barry and The Beatles are very excited to be performing together and they will be delivering all the classics from both the Fab Four & The Big "O" just like in 1963 when both these legends actually toured the UK together, it was during this tour that Roy Orbison and The Beatles forged life long friendships, which lasted right through to the creation of The Travelling Wilburys, whose music also features in this production.

This is a concert that is unique, this is "The concert they did give".

Lord Of The Mince Tour 2010

I, Julian Clary, have done for mincing what Michael Flatley did for Irish dancing.

But has the bottom fallen out of the homosexual meat market? I must tour my kingdom to find out...

In these difficult times I feel I should go and comfort my people in the provinces. My friend Damien tells me the men are very hard up in Skegness. I only hope I'm not too late.

I'm 50. The shame of it. This will be an intimate evening - a celebration, no less, of my twenty-five years in the camp spotlight: how I got there and why I refuse to leave. Come and see me before they put me in a home for tired old knackers.
