We had a wonderful time watching a unique performance of Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol in Skegness performed by the very talented StrangeFace Company, we absolutely loved the show.

Well done to the Skegness Grosvenor House Hotel on North Parade for securing this unusual theater performance. The Grosvenor House Hotel Imperial Ballroom was full on a cold December evening (December 3rd).

Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol Play Review

A Christmas Carol was performed with the StrangeFace actors wearing weird and wonderful masks, I’ve never seen a theater show like this before it was awesome. The masks made it so lots of Charles Dickens characters could be performed by a cast of just five players, yet because there was so many masks it made the show seem as though there was a cast of 20 or more. The StrangeFace actors did an excellent job in bringing to life each mask and making them individual, I’m surprised that this traditional art form isn’t used more in the theatre.

We went to see Vampires Rock Christmas Show on the 4th of December 2009 at the Embassy Theatre in Skegness.

Vampires Rock Christmas Show 2009 Review

WOW WHAT A SHOW! Vampires Rock is two and a half hours of 100% pure adrenalin pumping fun! Steve Steinmens fantastic Vampire Rock Show returned to the Embassy Theatre in Skegness with a new look to the show filled with new songs and a new character in the form of Baron Von Rockulars slave Boswell. Boswell has taken over from the previous slaves role Stringfellow, I sat and waited in anticipation could he be as good as StringFellow in the comedy relief?

2010 is looking to be a great year for the Embassy Theatre in Skegness with shows that will WOW crowds of all ages.

The Embassy is well worth a visit in 2010 with top shows like Andrew Lloyd Webber’s: Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dream Coat starring Craig Chalmers, from the hit BBC show Any Dream Will Do, performs in this family musical, Joseph will be performing in February 2010.

A Michael Jackson Tribute band all the way from the USA will be performing at the Embassy in February 2010 and for adults who enjoy a good laugh with a naughty sense of humour Julian Clary will be sweeping into town in the same month.

My son and I went to see Shakespeare 4 Kidz Macbeth at the Embassy Theatre on the 23rd November 2009.

It’s a production for children to learn about the play by William Shakespeare’s called The Tragedie of Macbeth through a musical. I think it’s important for kids to learn about Shakespeare, but in a fun way, so this is the perfect opportunity for my son to see Macbeth.

Shakespeare 4 Kidz Macbeth Review

Although this Shakespeare’s Macbeth 4 Kidz production is aimed at children, the show was anything but just for kids. The theatre production was thrilling and exciting, a must see for all. The hairs on the back of my neck stood up when the witches appeared on stage, we jumped out of our seats when the banging on the gate keepers door echoed around the theatre and even laughed out loud at the comedy.

Tower Cinema can be found within Tower Arcade 111 Lumley Road just across the road from the Skegness Clock Tower.

The horrible atmosphere of the Tower Arcade amusements brings down the tone of Tower Cinema a lot. I have to confess that I did prejudge Tower Cinema by the look of the amusements arcade and as a result it took two years to decide to take a trip to the cinema in Skegness. I assumed that it would be an uncomfortable disappointing rip off since that is the impression and experience you get at Tower Arcade amusements. If it wasn’t for doing this site I would never have gone.

Skegness Tower Cinema Review

Tower Cinema has two big screens, the cinema seats are modern, comfortable and clean. The screen room was tidy and well kept and you can buy your usual sweet treats like fresh popcorn.

The Skegness SO Festival 2010 will run July 22nd to 25th. We don’t have any information about this 2010 Skegness event, it will apparently be based on the successes of the Skegness SO Festival 2009 and Skegness SEAS Festival 2009.

Who doesn’t love a good fireworks display around bonfire night?

The Skegness Royal Hotel, South Parade Skegness, PE25 3EH (Tel: 01754 762301) hosts a free fireworks display on November the 5th 2009. Doors open 6:30PM (bar open) with the fireworks display starting 7:30PM.

It’s free to enter with the option to donate to local Rotarian charities.

Also includes children’s bouncy castle and sumo suits wrestling with hot food available.

Skegness Fireworks Display Review

The Rotary Charity fireworks display at the Royal Hotel Skegness was well worth turning out for, lots of big firework explosions and plenty of them.

Quite a few people turned out on bonfire night despite the rain: started to pour it down 5 minutes after the first firework went up, typical English weather, but it didn’t ruin the night

On Monday 26th October at around 8:15pm in the evening we heard a crash from the kitchen area. I went to investigate and found a brick had been thrown through our kitchen side window!! By the time I got outside whoever threw the brick was long gone unfortunately.

Not sure who did it, but the following morning found an egg splattered on the back of the car as well, which suggests teenagers. To whoever did it, that brick went over 3/4s way through the kitchen we obviously use on a regular basis, (the light was on at the time) had one of us been in the kitchen (youngest son was in the kitchen 10 mins earlier) someone could have been seriously hurt as glass was everywhere!

We’ve reported it to Skegness police and they are investigating.

As regular late evening walkers in Skegness we’ve seen teenagers hanging around the Sunshine Play Area in the late evening. At times there’s over 20 teenagers hanging around and messing around on the play equipment and some are not exactly careful with the play equipment designed for young children!

We understand there’s been a lot of vandalism caused on the Sunshine Play Area and the Skegness Town Council are looking for ways to tackle this problem.

I’m sure it’s been suggested on more than one occasion, but the most obvious solution is to add a gated fence which is locked in the evening. If the sort of fence around the Embassy Swimming Pool were used (apparently painted with a greasy paint that presumably stains clothing) it would deter the majority of teenagers, they’d move on.

Other possible solutions:

A lot of teenagers and that would include me twenty odd years ago complain they have nothing to do, so I’m starting a section drawing attention to Skegness activities and attractions aimed at teenagers.

I’m open to what might be considered a teenage activity, Bottons Pleasure Beach for example is a family attraction, but I think also falls under aimed at teens as well.

It was a fun and energetic night of musical entertainment at the Embassy Theatre Skegness when the Gotta Sing Gotta Dance group was on stage.

I’m no expert on musical theatre, never even been to London let alone to the West End, so many of the shows songs were new to me. The musical show captured my interest right from the start and I enjoyed every moment of Gotta Sing Gotta Dance. It was informative and funny with a cast of six performing a compilation of songs and acts from West End Musical’s, “50 songs” in total!

The Gotta Sing Gotta Dance cast was showered with whistles and heavy applause after almost every song from the 200 or so people in the Embassy Theatre audience. It’s rare to hear such enthusiasm from a small Skegness crowd at the Embassy.

Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Ballet is to be performed at the Skegness Embassy Theatre tonight (October 14th 2009) by The Perm Ballet Academy which hosts hundreds of Russian ballet dancers, many of whom have won awards in competition.

We are really looking forward to our first ballet and a review of the Nutcracker will follow shortly.

We were pleasantly surprised to see so many people attended the Embassy Theatre to see Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Ballet, there was at least four hundred people in the audience from old ladies to burly tattooed biker types, (one bloke with tattoos anyway ).

Ballet is far from an out of date form of entertainment as far as we could tell.

To tackle this type of behaviour he (Inspector Terry Ball) is hoping to get £15,000 to allow the police to set up diversionary activities on 32 nights of the year during the peak season, which might help to stop people from getting into fights.

It’s unfortunate the Skegness police force has to resort to this sort of initiative to reduce violence in our town, but I think it’s a great idea, so well done to whoever thought this up. I look forward to hearing more about the proposal, particularly who will they be targeting the diversionary activities at?

Is it teens and/or young adults or another group who create most trouble in and around Skegness?

We saw the Baghdaddies at St Mathews Church as part of the SEAS Festival that came to Skegness in 2009 (see our SEAS Festival Review). The Baghdaddies are a group of musicians from Newcastle who play mostly Eastern style music with a Western twist in their choice of musical instruments, I don’t think they have Western drum kits and saxophones in traditional Turkish music

After the interval the musicians told us a little about themselves because a lot of the old people in the audience thought since their band name was the Baghdaddies they where from Baghdad The band members are all Caucasian with Geordie accents which was hard to miss, but some of the old folks just concentrated on the bands name. The Baghdaddies have been around for 15 years and the band name I assume has more to do with the style of music they play than their heritage.
