New plans have been submitted to East Lindsey District Council regarding FAT LOUIS, GRAND PARADE, SKEGNESS, PE25 2UG.

Planning Permission – Erection of a 4 storey building which includes a basement level which provides 2 dance bars, DJ. Podium and toilet facilities, a bar with a dancefloor and a food hall/court to be used within Use Classes A3 and A5 of the Town and Country Planning (Use Classes) Order 1987 (as amended) on the upper ground floor, a club and 2 no. bars on the first floor with the provision of a balcony, and leisure facilities consisting of ice skating rink, roller disco area, internet cafe and cafe all on the 2nd floor with balcony on the site of a former hotel which has been burnt down in accordance with amended plans received by the Local Planning Authority from the applicant’s agent on 26th October 2009.

As regular late evening walkers in Skegness we’ve seen teenagers hanging around the Sunshine Play Area in the late evening. At times there’s over 20 teenagers hanging around and messing around on the play equipment and some are not exactly careful with the play equipment designed for young children!

We understand there’s been a lot of vandalism caused on the Sunshine Play Area and the Skegness Town Council are looking for ways to tackle this problem.

I’m sure it’s been suggested on more than one occasion, but the most obvious solution is to add a gated fence which is locked in the evening. If the sort of fence around the Embassy Swimming Pool were used (apparently painted with a greasy paint that presumably stains clothing) it would deter the majority of teenagers, they’d move on.

To tackle this type of behaviour he (Inspector Terry Ball) is hoping to get £15,000 to allow the police to set up diversionary activities on 32 nights of the year during the peak season, which might help to stop people from getting into fights.

It’s unfortunate the Skegness police force has to resort to this sort of initiative to reduce violence in our town, but I think it’s a great idea, so well done to whoever thought this up. I look forward to hearing more about the proposal, particularly who will they be targeting the diversionary activities at?

Is it teens and/or young adults or another group who create most trouble in and around Skegness?

The SEAS Festival Finale at the Embassy Theater was a fitting end to another poorly organised Skegness event. I arrived at the Embassy with my young son, we were welcomed into the theater by The Jolly Fisherman to what I was assured was a family night of musical entertainment.

Here’s the information Skegness residents/visitors and the Skegness Tourist Information Center/Embassy Theater staff had available to decide if the Finale was a family friendly event.

Yes you read the title of this post correctly, East Lindsey District Council will STOP the green bin collections completely over the winter period (November to March)!

I’m all for recycling and saving money and have always thought fortnightly collection of green bins throughout the year a waste of resources, even in summer our green bins are rarely full (small garden). I also thought it a bit strange we got a full size green bin and a half size black bin, should have been the other way around IMO: and as a family we have managed to fit black bin waste in the half sized black bin, but struggle with the over flowing full size grey recycling bin (businesses give us too much recyclable material as packaging!) and at times have to put it in the black bin.
