Skegness Attractions and Skegness Tourist Information

I stumbled upon this news article in the Skegness Standard during August where the local Skegness newspaper had written a report about the Nottingham Riviera Life is a beach.

The Skegness Standard covered the report over a complaint supposedly by someone who went to the Nottingham Riviera and was disappointed by the urban beach and complained that a pint at the Nottingham Riviera cost £3.50 and the beach didn’t have the same atmosphere as Skegness.

I’m originally from the Nottingham area and when I was a child I never got to go on holiday or see the sea, so for kids who were like me living in Nottingham, who never gets to go on holiday I think the Nottingham Riviera is a fantastic idea and I wish someone would have thought of it when I was a child.

I often keep up to date on what’s happening in Skegness by following the local paper online every week. The Skegness Standard has a poll on various subjects and one of the polls asked this Question: was the SO Festival money well spent by the council.

I immediately voted YES and was shocked when the results for the SO Festival was 19% of people who voted on the poll said YES, but a staggering 81% of voters said NO.

After a while it got me thinking about the Question that was asked on the poll.

I definitely loved the activities I took part in or watched, but was it money well spent by the council?

Looking at this more closely means investigating how much revenue was made by the SO Festival for Skegness, the Council are always telling us it’s good for local businesses with people buying food etc… but how much of that money will directly help Skegness.

The Embassy Theatre seems to be a hot topic at the moment for East Lindsey District Council on improving the Skegness Theatre.

In a news article in the Skegness Standard it was reported, Since November last year, the Embassy Theatre has come under the spotlight at a series of meetings of a task-and-finish group set up by its owners, East Lindsey District Council.

discussions between councilors indicate some councillors would like to see the premises enlarged so as to attract stronger acts with wider appeal.

But this would require hefty investment, with a risk it might not be met by increased revenue from ticket sales

This got me thinking and has sparked my imagination as to what I would do with the Embassy if I was a millionaire (” I wish, but you can dream ” )

Bottons Pleasure Beach in Skegness has got a new thrill ride for 2010.

The Extreme ride cost half a million quid and will be up an running in time for the opening season in March 2010.

I’ve been down and had a look and my son and I are looking forward to trying it out when we next go to Bottons this year.

It’s good to see that Bottons keeps up with the times and gets in new rides. When we first came to Skegness in 2006 the Rocking Roller was their new ride.

Shame Bottons doesn’t improve the Ghost Train to be as good as the Ghost Trains at Brighton or Blackpool, hint, hint

I had to laugh when a 4 year old came off the Ghost Train in a huff, his grandad chased after him and asked what was wrong and the little boy shouted “It was Crap” and folded his arms and stamped a foot.

The Embassy Theatre could be expanded by using an upstairs space that is not used. There has apparently been a disused space in the Theatre since renovations took place in the Embassy 11 years ago!

The Council are looking into ways to improve the Embassy Theatre for the public in Skegness and this extra space could been used to do this.

The council are examining ways to make the most of the Embassy Theatre.

I got this information from a short local news story, there was no mention of what exactly the thoughts are about improving the Skegness Embassy Theatre?

This looks to be good for the Embassy one of the best attractions in Skegness and a welcomed piece of foresight from the council. Only a years or two ago there was talk of the Embassy not being viable for the council and fears of it closing especially since the credit crunch put the Embassy’s future on rocky ground!

The councils would love to bring a sculpture park to Skegness some where on the Skegness foreshore.

Chief executive Nigel Howells told a town/district liaison meeting: “It’s a wonderful idea – people love sculptures, especially if they can crawl all over them, touch and feel them.”

But at the moment due to the recession there’s not enough money in the pot.

A sculpture park would be wonderful for Skegness there’s not enough art in peoples every day lives and art and sculptures that people could touch and feel would liven Skegness up.

Art always gets people talking and can add a lot of interest to an area. lets hope this great idea gets off the ground soon and money can be found in the future for a Skegness sculpture park.

The Skegness Sunshine Kiddies Play area can be found to the side of the Pier Field on the Skegness waterway

The Sunshine play area is a new play ground for kids aged 3-14 years old, it’s bright colourful and a lovely modern park for the kids to let off some steam, it is the best free play ground in Skegness

The Sunshine play area has a range of play equipment for the little ones there’s: Animal Rockers, Climbing Box and little Slide, games and the Cargo Net Swing.

For older kids there is: Bungee Swing, Climbing Tower and Slide, Zip Line and a Cargo Net Swing.

There has been some vandalism on the park with broken glass and the play equipment being damaged. The glass is cleared up quiet quickly by the Skegness Town Council each morning, but there has been complaints by holiday makers about teenagers using the park irresponsibly and making them feel intimidated by their presence.

Despite the bad behaviour of some teenagers in Skegness vandalizing the Skegness Sunshine play area, the Skegness Town Council have given the go ahead for the Sunshine Play Area to be expanded with play equipment designed for teens.

The new play equipment will be a little further down from the Skegness Sunshine Play Area, so in effect there will be two parks on the Skegness Waterway.

It’s hoped that the teens will stop vandalizing the kiddies equipment if they have equipment of there own to let off steam.

Older Kids in Skegness where consulted and the Sky Carver was at the top of there list, other play equipment for the teens Sunshine play area will be a metro high rotator and metro access spring.

It’s going to cost the council £18,000 to improve the Skegness Sunshine play area

This will be good for the town.

The Fairy Dell Paddling Pool can be found at the Skegness Boating Lake. To find the paddling pool go over the bridge and the free paddling pool can be found on the other side.

The Fairy Dell Paddling Pool is open from May to September 10am till 6pm every day

It’s one of the best things in Skegness to do for free with the kids.

The Fairy Dell is a nice little pool with sprinklers and an ornamental fountain in the center and it’s weaving pools there’s seats for adults and soft flooring underfoot.

The Paddling pool is a great relaxing place to play with the kids. I still take my son at 13 years old, but then he’s in no hurry to grow up and be an adult

The Vine Walk is a tranquil wooded footpath walk.

The Vine is one of the best short walks in Skegness there’s lots of birds and squirrels in the Vine and a playing field where you can play ball games

The Vine Walk starts from Richmond Drive and finishes on Drummond Road just off the beach.

Once your on the Walk you can’t get lost, just stay on the path. The vine is sign posted all the way along, so there’s no fear of not knowing where to go.

The Vine Walk takes 30-45 mins to walk through.

To start the Vine Walk keep going up Richmond Drive passed Tescos and Richmond Primary school until you get to a path that says public footpath and a billboard advertising the Vine Hotel opposite Richmond caravan park, follow the foot paths all the way through to Drummond road, from there you can either cross the road and walk straight up to the Skegness beach or turn left and walk down Drummond Road towards Tower Cinema.

A LOT of FUN! WHO’S BAD had a great concert atmosphere. I’m not a big Michael Jackson fan, but I loved WHO’S BAD.

The whole crowd of over a thousand at the Embassy of all ages was vocal and animated from the get go. Lots of the audience were stood up and singing along to the lyrics, I joined in singing all the lyrics wrong , but I didn’t care I never do, I’m rubbish at remembering lyrics.

There was a great feeling in the Embassy Theatre, normally the audience at the Embassy can be a little hard to liven up with so many in the crowd unwilling to let their hair down and have fun. The cast of WHO’S BAD had no such problems getting the audience out of their seats and to their feet almost from the start, joining in with a lively and entertaining show.

We’ll be going to see the Bat The Symphony in June at the Embassy Theatre Skegness.

We’ll be going to see the Wild Roses Snow White on Ice Show in June at the Embassy Theatre Skegness. We’ve seen several ice shows by this Russian production and they are stunning. They will almost certainly be another hit with my family.
